What is God's greatest desire from mankind?

The simple question has a variety of answers from believers and non believers. Before reading on, try thinking to yourself what you feel it is. Go ahead I'm waiting (Literally).

For you awesome individuals who have actually participated, you probably answered one of the following :

  • Faith
  • Going to Church
  • Love
  • Charity/Generosity
  • Sacrifice
  • Prayer
Though all of these of course, are equally important to progress in our relationship with Christ and spiritual lives, we must understand that those six, within themselves, are useless without the true ingredient. The component that puts our faith into action, brings life and healing in church, gives us the ability to love, give, and most importantly, bring revelation and manifestations into our prayer lives. That, my friends, would be obedience.

Everyday you are either increasing or decreasing. Getting better or worst in every part of your life. Whether health wise, emotionally, spiritually, financially, at your work, or your relationships. Whose  commands we obey, determine our livelihoods. We are obeying and applying someones standards of living every single second we choose to take a form of action. In fact, non of the knowledge we have is even ours. What is taught by our parents, peers, society, culture, religion and other sources, play a huge role in who we are and why we make the decisions we make. In this article we will explore which ones are actually helping and the ones doing the opposite. So lets a take a deeper look at obedience, its purpose, its enemy, and its benefit in everyday living.

What is Obedience?

Obedience is a compliance with an order or request and also the submission to another's authority. It is one thing to believe in God, go to church, practice all of the other regulated hooplahs that make one feel that he or she is somehow pleasing God. But it is another thing entirely to actually submit to his requests and obeying them.  -1 Jonh 1:6 "And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love."

-John 14:21 "Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by the father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.

These two scriptures are just a small proof of God's desire to see his children grow by actually applying what he teaches.
"God's greatest desire is to be believed. His pain is to be doubted."
Quoted from Pastor Mike Murdock. God loves to see his children grow and prosper. Some of us, when we think of prosper we think in material terms. Though increase in finances is definitely a blessing, Through his word we see he has a un-ending heartfelt concern to see YOU, his child, grow as a man or women.

Like an earthly mother who makes sure her kids are well feed, provided for, and disciplined. A mother will teach her child the way, so when the child becomes an adult he or she may be prudent enough to make decisions that lead to long lasting positive results in a world full of troubles and iniquity. In contrast to the child who willingly disobeys his or her parents or guardians instructions. You will see a magnificent difference between the two.

"You will know them by their fruits..."The following verse doesn't just apply to pastors but us as well. One child grew up to be an addict, dropped out of school, and had a child at age 17. While the other grew and found a great career, happily married, and contempt with ones life. Favor is gained by who you choose to obey, and iniquity is reaped by who you dishonor.

Where does disobedience comes from?

As we do a quick reality check, it is clear that obedience is not, for most of us who are human, a strong point. Not just with God, but any earthly authority figure; from the police, to the Judge, to the president, and even our own parents. The history of mankind shows us, that the very first human beings on the planet also had an obedient problem. Adam and Eve decided to eat off of the forbidden fruit, even when told "...You will surely die..." Genesis 2:17

We see how one little act of disobedience transformed not only their nature but the covenant relationship we were met to have with God. An earthly example is a man who is warned that if he gets another DUI he will go to jail for quiet some time. If he wasn't been warned or told of the consequence, then maybe he would have the right to not be held accountable. In this case, he isn't if he chooses to disobey. This is why Jesus said the we are held accountable for our sins when we continuously stray from his Words because we have heard his Word. But people don't just rebel for the fun of it? There is always something, or mostly, someone with enticing words that seduce our flesh into making horrible choices.

That is what happen to Adam and Eve. They were not alone in the Garden. A third voice was present, and voiced its contradictory point of view to entice its victims into a trap. Like a hunter ambitiously looking to capture a lion, he will use the lions greatest desire to entice him into the fierce trap. He will place the bait (A live deer or something a lion loves to eat) inside of the cage until the lion is fully vulnerable by his own hunger. Satan the slanderer, the god of this age, the father of lies, is our spiritual enticer in this very realm we exist in.

Unlike a hunter, he is a dominate spiritual force who operates in this spiritual realm with only one ambition, one purpose, one obsession . To steal, kill, and destroy God's children. (Technically that is three...)
John 10:10 " The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy: I (Jesus Christ) have come so that they may have life and have it more abundantly."

How often do we still see this in person? A "third voice". "It's goal is to be the only voice"- Mike Murdock
Two couples are doing well for themselves and the love in their relationship sparks greater intimacy, but along the way here comes the third voice. Whether a gossip, a false witness, an accuser, or even a thought or feeling. That third voice comes only to create separation and steal or destroy the gifted relationship the two couples have. by making one believe that the lie is the truth and the truth is the lie.
" I think you should break up with her."
"Well, your parents aren't home so they wont find out."
"Its only this once, your not going to become an addict or anything."

These are the voices of disobedience. These are the voices of Satan. "“Did God really say, ‘You shall not eat from any of the trees in the garden’? Genesis 3:1." Now because of what happened in the Garden, we are now cursed with a curse. Our spirits are natural aligned with Satan and programmed to rebel. You don't have to be a killer, or gang-banger to be rebellious, for we all know that all sin is sin, and leads to death. (1 John 1:8-10 "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.")

Why we are called to Obey?

When God is ready to bless you, he will always give an instruction
From that point on you now have a choice to obey, or not. The number of miracles that Jesus successful performed (Which was all of them) on those who asked of him are all rooted by those men and women obeying his commands.

Lets take a look at a biblical example. In Matthew 12,  there was a man whose hand was withered his whole life. Jesus told him "Stretch forth your hand". The man obeyed Jesus's command by believing and having faith that what Jesus was asking him to do was going to result in what he wanted done. Matthew 12:13  "Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, as the other."

What has Jesus "saith' for you to do? What have you been hearing, feeling, and having your conscience stir you to do? What instruction(s) have you been avoiding? What is it you feel you cannot "Stretch forth" for Jesus to give you restoration, deliverance, open doors or opportunities, favor, a new life and everything else he is willing to give? Is it shame? guilt? sexual sins? Anger towards another? Loneliness?

You are ONE decision away from a blessing or an unfortunate end. You are the only one who stands in the way of your blessing. Christ is knocking at the door, he will not force you to open, neither can the devil force you to look the other way. Satan can only convince you to do otherwise. It is up to YOU. Jesus was not going to force the man to stretch forth his hand. If the man would have thought in earthly wisdom or sophisticated logic, he would have thought "Stretch forth my hand? Son, my hand has been withered since I was born. I was never able to move it! Jesus is trippin hard!" and he would't have been healed. This is why it takes faith to apply God's Word

So why exactly are we called to obey? We don't just obey because of the earthly benefits. After all, many billionaires who don't believe in Jesus actually apply and obey his principles. While many christians love and praise Jesus, all the while have no clue of the law of obedience.

We obey God out of love. The same reason we obey our parents. Our obedience and submissive attitudes toward his word will increase our relationship with him and transform us to his likeness day by day. Obedience is what gives us salvation in the first place. If you are born-again in Christ, you obeyed when God told you to confess your sins and repent (1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.)

You obeyed when you believed that you were receiving an invisible force to come live-in-your-heart (Ephesians 1:13"In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit")

Obedience is the root to the blessings we experience. Obedience results in Joy.

The Bible as a whole is a book on decisions. We have seen over and over again in the scriptures the benefits and blessings from those individuals who obeyed God's given command(s) and received his blessings such as the man with the withered hand. Along with those who reaped suffering and misery from taking his commands lightly.

Obedience is far from going to church or reading your bible. It is first birthed by faith. You cannot obey God if you do not have  faith in his character in the first place. When one has faith, he or she will naturally obey God's command and his or her actions will follow as they are lead by the spirit of God.

As stated in Joshua 1:7-8 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips;meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.

we come to realize that not God or satan himself can change our destiny. You are one decision away from increase or decrease."But the Bible says that those who don't believe, will not have everlasting life. Doesn't that mean that God has created our destiny? In most passages of God's word, there is also an "IF" or a MAY:."...that you may be successful wherever you go. IF you, the reader, take heed, take stand in God's word, give up the "thing" that God has been pointing out to no longer be in your life, and by faith, DO the "thing" God commands you to do THEN you shall reap the blessings for yourself.

It is easy to teach and write about it. It is easy to hear pastors and servants of God preach their hearts out about obeying God. But how exactly can we consistently obey god's word in a daily life full of temptations and ungodly desires.

The root of Obedience.

Indeed there is a root. It is realizing who you are in Christ. Your True nature. The fact of the matter is this, When one command of God is broken, all has been broken. This is why sin, is called missing the mark. The mark is God and God is within. Missing the mark, is missing Our True selves. The image of his son, Jesus Christ.

We are created to obey God. The same way a child is born and is genetically programmed to obey his or her parents. The child who receives the love of his parents and is submissive to their discipline will more than likely live a better life then the child who does the opposite.

When we are reconciled back to God and continually walk in the Holy Spirit, which resides in us, we come to realize that everything Jesus was on earth, we now boldly posses. ( John 16: 15 " All that belongs to the father is mine. That is why I said the spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.")
This is very important to grasp, as it is written. Religion teaches "YOU must obey" when really is saying "Have confidence in your flesh"We alone cannot do anything God wants us to do whether by thought, action, or deed while identifying ourselves as pure flesh. (Romans 8:8 " For those who are of the flesh, cannot please God.")

It is by his Spirit, the Holy Spirit, which lives in us and transforms our whole being the moment we receive Jesus in our hearts. From that beingness, we are able to connect with God on personal levels and continually do as we called us to do to live a successful and glorious life on earth both spiritually and physically. Now, does obeying God mean that we will never have problems? Does obeying God's commands mean we automatically manifest awesomeness of our desires while what we don't want gets repelled?

Certainly not! In fact, most of the time, his commands will bring you into places you never indented to be. This is what puts our relationship with Christ to the test. We must have an actual relationship with Christ and strive to increase it like you strive to increase your earthly relationships. The trials you go through in life will only prove how committed you are about Jesus. More than just that, they are meant to carry you forward to better things after having been tested. This is what separates a true disciple from a plain believer. Which one are you my fellow reader?

Key points of Obedience.

To conclude this article, I have written down key points that can be copied or added to a personal notebook or journal. I encourage all who have read this to take God's teaching to heart and remember to seek him as a personal father more than anything. You must remember that the law of cause and effect/karma is as natural as the law of gravity and a man and women will reap what her or she has sown. We all make mistakes and fall short, so let us remember to thank God for his grace and remember to continue to grow.

I challenge all of you to take precious value into your own lives and begin to examine yourselves. Ask yourself honest questions and ask God to reveal the behavioral patterns that are hindering your walk and success. Remember my beloved readers, you are one decision away from a blessing or an unfortunate end.
So Christ up, and Obey!

Here are the Key points:
  • God desires our complete obedience to his word.

  • Obedience opens blessings and favor, while disobedience creates iniquity.

  • You are one decision away from a blessing or unfavorable results.

  • Our capacity to obey, comes from our relationship with God.

  • When God is ready to bless you, He will give you an instruction.

  • The Holy Spirit is responsible for our ability to obey God's Word.

  • We must Obey out of love: Not fear of punishment, or earthly benefit.
